Evacuations lifted in Napa County's Snell fire

Fire crews held Napa County’s Snell fire at 2,490 acres Monday and raised its containment to 45 percent, up 15 percent from earlier that day.

Cal Fire lifted all mandatory evacuation orders and road closures for the Lake Berryessa-area fire at 11 a.m., though officials warned residents to stay alert to changing conditions and fire crews that remain in the area.

The north county fire is burning in remote terrain near Lake Berryessa and is about 7 miles southeast of Middletown. Flames were threatening about 180 homes and other structures, mostly in Berryessa Estates, which triggered the initial evacuation order.

Cal Fire so far has reported no burned structures.

Cooler weather due this week should help firefighters continue their progress.

There were 1,234 fire personnel battling the blaze, including about 50 firefighters from Sonoma County, working mainly on two five-engine strike teams.

The fire started Saturday and grew to 1,900 acres by the following morning. It’s the latest of several fires to spring up in the region this summer.
