A Mendocino County Sheriff's deputy deployed a K-9 unit to arrest a Laytonville man last week on suspicion of trying to break into a parked car after he fled a bar parking lot on a bicycle and then led law enforcement on a foot chase.

Ryan Robert Padget, 38, of Laytonville was taken into custody early Wednesday morning on one felony count of burglary and four other misdemeanor charges, including resisting arrest and possession of burglary tools. Sheriff's deputies were patrolling the area of Boomer's Saloon in the 45000 block of north Highway 101 due to a string of recent burglaries and thefts in downtown Laytonville.

Deputies witnessed a man, later identified as Padget, holding a flashlight and a tool in an attempt to force open a car door, the sheriff's office said. Padget sped away on his bike when approached by authorities before crashing into a fence and then taking off on foot.

Once subdued by the K-9 unit, Padget was handcuffed and treated for his injuries at a local hospital before being booked into the Mendocino County Jail. He is being held on $20,000 bail.
