A Petaluma man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries after he was struck by an SUV Saturday night.

Miguel Gonzalez, 24, was crossing North McDowell Boulevard near East Madison Street when he was hit by a southbound Toyota Highlander, police said.

A witness who was traveling behind the SUV, driven by Thoan Ferguson, 47, of Castro Valley, told police Gonzalez appeared to have been outside the crosswalk when he was struck. The witness said Ferguson had a green light when she entered the intersection.

Gonzalez was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with head injuries, although they didn’t appear to be life-threatening, police said.

Ferguson, who was cooperating with the investigation, showed no signs of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, nor was there evidence she was speeding, police said.
