Fire officials are investigating a suspicious brush fire Wednesday night along the road in rural Windsor.

Firefighters from Rincon Valley, Windsor, Healdsburg and Cal Fire responded to the 7:34 p.m. fire at Eastside Road at Windsor River Road. The flames grew to a quarter acre and took about 45 minutes to extinguish.

“We don’t believe this was an accidental fire,” said Cyndi Foreman, spokeswoman for Windsor Fire. She declined to elaborate on the department’s initial investigation. “It is certainly suspicious.”

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the investigation.
