Pickup truck loses tire, causes Highway 101 Cotati crash

The only injury in Monday’s early Highway 101 crash in Cotati was to southbound commuters caught in the crash slowdown.|

Commute traffic slowed to a crawl Monday morning along southbound Highway 101 in Cotati due to a crash when a tire came off a pickup and hit a big rig, according to initial CHP reports.

No one was seriously injured in the 7 a.m. collision near the Railroad Avenue offramp, according to the CHP.

First reports indicated it started with a pickup spinning across lanes, possibly due to losing a tire, according to initial CHP reports.

The older-model Ford F-150, minus the tire, hit the guardrail and then spun across the highway into the center divide. The loose tire hit a big rig, and that driver pulled the rig over to the side of the highway, preliminary reports said.

Just after 8 a.m. the CHP report indicated traffic was down to about 2 mph and traffic was backed up well into Rohnert Park.
