DRIVER KILLED IN CRASH ON 101 NORTH OF WILLITS

A motorist died after losing control of his vehicle on Highway 101 north of Willits, swerving off the road and striking two large trees Friday night the CHP said.

He was traveling northbound south of Shimmins Ridge Road and Longvale when he left the east edge of the road and struck the trees, authorities said. The vehicle came to a rest facing south in a wooded area adjacent to the northbound shoulder.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said. His name was not released pending notification of his family.

Authorities are still investigating what caused him to lose control of the car. It was not raining at the time, but had been raining earlier in the evening, so the pavement was wet.
