Santa Rosa firefighters are investigating a fire that broke out underneath a Sonoma Avenue home early Wednesday, causing $200,000 in damages, fire officials said.

None of the occupants in the four-unit residence, located four doors down from the Santa Rosa Fire Department’s Station 1, were injured in the 4 a.m. blaze, firefighters said.

A total of 30 firefighters, six fire engines and two ladder trucks responded to the fire. Crews created ventilation openings on the roof to slow its spread, the department said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within about an hour.

A back room in one of the units and the underside of the home received the worst of the fire damage, although smoke caused damage throughout the building, the department said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Sonoma Avenue was closed to traffic until about 7:30 a.m., Santa Rosa police said in a Nixle alert.
