A cyclist suffered major injuries Thursday evening in a hit-and-run collision with a vehicle off Westside Road near Healdsburg.

Gary Begley, 61, of Healdsburg, was hit in the 5:45 p.m. crash just east of West Dry Creek Road, according to CHP.

Begley, a handyman and 20-year resident of Healdsburg, was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He remained in the hospital Friday with severe injuries, including multiple skull fractures that required surgery to remove blood from his brain, broken ribs that punctured his kidneys and a broken shoulder, said his sister, Terri Moss, of Irvine.

“He has lived on his bicycle,” Moss said. “That’s how he gets around. That is the way he has commuted.”

The make and model of the vehicle involved in the crash was not known Friday, said CHP Officer David deRutte. The CHP asked anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call investigators at 707-588-1400.
