Memorial service planned for Rohnert Park teen killed in crash

Friends and family of Ashley Carlson, the Rancho Cotate senior who died in a May 6 car crash west of Santa Rosa, are holding a memorial service for her Monday, on what would have been her 18th birthday.

The service is at 6 p.m. in Penngrove Park, a place Carlson was familiar with through volunteer work she did with the Penngrove Social Firemen, her boyfriend Mohamad Hamade said.

Hamade, 19, said he and his family are helping Carlson's family organize the event.

There will be a potluck. T-shirts and bracelets commemorating Carlson will be sold, the profits of which Hamade said will go to Carlson's family.

Hamade said the event is meant to be a celebration and encouraged people to avoid wearing black.
