Two arrested in Windsor shooting

A man was shot and then dropped off outside a Windsor market Thursday morning, triggering an air and ground search that briefly put schools on lockdown, closed multiple roads and led deputies on a quick chase through the Windsor Town Green.

Sonoma County sheriff’s detectives detained three people for questioning in connection with the shooting and had arrested two of them by Thursday evening, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Lt. Carlos Basurto said. Jason Bulcke, 36, of Windsor was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide. Eric Dennow, 29, of Santa Rosa was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to attempted murder. The third person still was being questioned, and the Sheriff’s Office has not ruled out the possibility that there might be other suspects.

The wounded man, who was identified only as a 31-year-old Sonoma County resident, was dropped off by people in a white Hyundai sedan in front of Pohley’s Market on Windsor River Road just before 9:30 a.m., sheriff’s officials said. The Hyundai then drove away.

One of the market’s owners was behind the counter when the man appeared at the door and asked him to call 911.

“There was a lot of blood. He was holding his shirt up,” said the owner, who did not identify himself.

The wounded man was talking to someone on his cellphone.

Emergency personnel took the man to a hospital, where doctors told investigators the man was expected to survive, Basurto said. The shooting did not appear to be gang-related.

Deputies cordoned off Windsor River Road in front of the market and flooded the area. On a tip from multiple callers, deputies apprehended a suspect in the case who was spotted running near businesses along the Town Green, Windsor Police Chief Chris Spallino said. The sheriff’s helicopter helped deputies track that man.

Another tip led deputies to find an “extensive” crime scene less than a mile from the market at a residence in the 9000 block of Starr Road, a quiet, narrow road west of Keiser Community Park and Windsor High School.

Outside the residence Thursday morning, a deputy put a handcuffed young man wearing blue pants and a white shirt into a patrol car and drove away. Sheriff’s violent crimes detectives were called to the property.

Basurto said he couldn’t disclose what type of crime appeared to have taken place at the property, but he said detectives were waiting for a search warrant to determine whether it was connected to the shooting.

Area law enforcement agencies were put on alert to look for the Hyundai, which had not been found Thursday evening, Basurto said. Detectives suspect the gun used to shoot the man may be in the car.

Windsor High School and Windsor Oaks Academy were briefly placed on lockdown while the Sheriff’s Office helicopter, Henry 1, circled over west Windsor searching for the shooter.
