14 candidates file for council races in three northern Sonoma County cities

The field is set for City Council races in three northern Sonoma County cities where filing deadlines were extended five days as a result of some incumbents’ choosing not to seek re-election.

The extended deadline to run in the November election was late Wednesday in Windsor, Healdsburg and Cloverdale.

In Windsor, incumbents Steve Allen and Robin Goble chose not to run again, although longtime City Councilman Sam Salmon is going for an unprecedented sixth term. The other candidates who will appear on the ballot are energy consultant Frank Di Massa; Planning Commission Chairman Dominic Foppoli; Mark Millan, a planning commissioner and water supply adviser; and Evan Zelig, a defense attorney.

In Healdsburg, incumbents Susan Jones and Jim Wood are not running. But those seeking to be elected to the two seats include Jeff Civian, a planning commissioner and retired civil engineer; Brigette Mansell, a high school English teacher; Tim Meinken, a winery owner and former pension and benefits consultant; and former Mayor Eric Ziedrich, owner and chief executive of Healdsburg Lumber Co.

In Cloverdale, Councilman Mike Maacks chose not to seek re-election. But incumbents Joe Palla and Carol Russell both are running again. Joining them on the ballot are businesswoman Jude Gibson-Byers; former City Clerk Michele Winterbottom; and former Mayor Gus Wolter.
