Terlato Wine Group, which has a number of Sonoma and Napa wine brands, has purchased the 120-acre Klipsun Vineyards in Washington state, a growing region for affordable cabernet sauvignon grapes.

Terlato bought the property from Patricia and David Gelles, who planted the vineyard in 1984. It’s known for its cabernet sauvignon and merlot grapes that have been used in more than 45 different wine brands. The parcel is located in the Red Mountain region in the Yakima Valley, an area where Duckhorn Wine Co. in St. Helena also has some land holdings.

Terlato, based in the Chicago area, owns such Napa Valley brands as Rutherford Hill and Terlato Vineyards as well as Sonoma County brands Rochioli and Hanna. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. International Wine Associates of Healdsburg served as the adviser for the Gelles family.
