Northern California brain surgeon pleads not guilty to child sex charges
SANTA CRUZ - A California brain surgeon has pleaded not guilty to 10 felony charges accusing him of sexually assaulting two boys and a girl under 14 years old.
The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/2rpKWSF ) that James Kohut entered the plea in a Santa Cruz County court on Friday. The newspaper says his attorney, Jay Rorty, declined to comment.
Kohut was arrested as part of an investigation into a child sex abuse ring that has also led to charges against two nurses, Emily Stephens and Rashel Brandon.
Court documents say Kohut had sex with two boys in the presence of nurses.
It was not clear whether Stephens and Brandon had attorneys. Brandon's brother, Isaac Lynn of San Jose, told the newspaper his family is supporting Brandon.
