Meals on Wheels clients offered choices

The Council on Aging is now offering a “Choice Meal” plan to all of its Meals on Wheels clients.

The new program is the first in the country to give seniors a choice of meals every day. The next best model allows clients to pick a meal plan from a specific category, such as low sodium or vegetarian, but each plan only offers one option per day and there is no switching between programs.

According to Charles A. Lindner, director of nutrition and kitchen operations, “The right to choose what you eat is often the first choice relinquished as we rely on others for help. This program restores to our homebound seniors a level of independence that so often is taken away.”
