Thumbs down: Another anti-fluoridation vote? Really?

It’s bad enough when pesky sales people won’t take no for an answer. But how would it feel if you knew that each time one of them knocks on your door, it costs you money? That may indicate how some Healdsburg voters are feeling as they, once again, are going to have to vote on whether to keep fluoridating their water. And they are paying the cost of putting this on the November ballot, to the tune of $3,000 to $9,000.

Voters already sent a strong message in support of being the only city in the county that fluoridates its water, something Healdsburg has been doing since 1952. When critics of the system placed an anti-fluoridation measure on the ballot in 2014, local voters rejected it by nearly a 2-1 margin. But now they’re back with something similar for the fall ballot. How about a rule that says the second time through in cases like this, the instigators have to pay the full cost of putting it on the ballot? Just a thought.
