Democrats and sedition
EDITOR: We have for years have watched the Democrats destroy our country by dividing us by race, by gender, by financial status, by education and by torturing us with aggressive political correctness, which further divides us. They have also disrespected our Constitution, our flag, our nation and our borders.
Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi in a commencement address at UC Berkeley in 2014 stated, “You here at Berkeley are already disruptors in many ways.” And she closed with, “My wish is that you will be disruptors when necessary and that you enjoy every moment of it.”
That statement led to $100,000 damage at the university over a perceived slight.
The term “sedition” comes to mind.
While President Donald Trump is attempting to unite the citizens of our nation, we have Democratic Congressman Mike Thompson exhorting a gathering to “agitate, agitate, agitate” (“Big crowd cheers lawmakers’ calls to save health care act,” Feb. 26). Again the term “sedition” comes to mind.
Trump is speaking a message of unity and progress while the Democrats work to destroy our country.
Costs of children
EDITOR: Let’s hope that Jean Grant, who thinks that all pregnancies should result in a child, understands that unwanted children born to parents who cannot afford to feed, house, educate or sometimes even love and care for them will need her full support after birth (“Women’s health,” Letters, Wednesday).
This means that she puts her voice, dollars, votes and volunteer hours toward free childhood and college education, lifetime social services, community mental health services, free health care, inexpensive adoption, food banks, affordable housing in her neighborhood and prisons.
Thank you for understanding that if you want to take away women’s choice about how many children to have, you are responsible for taking care of those unfortunate enough to be born to parents who don’t want them or can’t care for them.
Not able to get behind life-time support? Then support a woman’s right to choose.
EDITOR: The GOP’s health care plan, by repealing certain taxes on the wealthy, would partially defund Medicare. Remember when Donald Trump promised that, if elected, he wouldn’t touch Medicare or Social Security?
Since he supports the GOP plan, perhaps the videos documenting those promises were “fake news.”
At least we might soon find out just how gullible Trump voters really are.
EDITOR: According to the concise Oxford English dictionary, an immigrant is a “person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.” A country is defined as a “nation with its own government, occupying a particular territory.
Does Thomas Hannah mean to imply that the colonists were not immigrants because the Indians did not have an “established country” (“A colonial history,” Letters, Wednesday)?
In fact, the inhabitants of all the Americas had civilizations and governments that supported populations of strong, healthy, clean individuals at a time when Europeans were wallowing in their own filth, never bathing in a lifetime, dumping their sewage in the street and rife with disease.
