This one requires no explanation. Just apologies to the people of Haiti - and to the roughly 1.2 billion people on the continent of Africa. According to multiple news accounts, President Donald Trump, during a meeting with Capitol Hill lawmakers, rejected the idea of bringing back protections for immigrants, offering this crass and sweeping castigation: “Why are we having all these people from s---hole countries come here? We should have more people from places like Norway.” We would like to say that such a derogatory interrogatory is beneath any president of the United States. But this one seems to be the exception. In a response to CBS News, White House principal deputy press secretary Raj Shah defended the comment saying, “Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people.” Denigrating people of another continent is not fighting for this country. And he certainly isn’t speaking for its people either.
