Lakeport police: Bar patrons attack officer

Routine check of crowded bar ends in arrest of father, son who reportedly had to be subdued by customers, a second police officer and a person riding along with first officer.|

A Lakeport police officer checking a crowded bar early Sunday was attacked by two patrons who were eventually subdued with the help of a second officer, several other bar customers and someone who had been riding along to get a taste of what police work is like, Police Chief Brad Rasmussen said in a press release.

It all started shortly after midnight when the officer decided to check on TJ’s Downtown Bar & Grill. A 24-year-old patron, Roman Hanson Rose, who appeared drunk, grabbed the back of the officer’s belt and then yelled at and threatened the officer when the officer turned around to confront him, Rasmussen said.

When a second officer arrived to help, Rose refused to go outside to talk and became violent and threatening, Rasmussen said. At one point, Rose attacked but did not injure the person participating in the ride-along. During the tussle, the man’s father, Michael Dale Rose, 51, came to his son’s aid, grabbing the first officer by the neck and trying to put him in a choke-hold, Rasmussen said. The officer received minor injuries, Rasmussen said. Eventually, the second officer arrested Michael Rose with help from the person riding along and three other bar patrons, Rasmussen said. The same officer used a stun gun to subdue Roman Rose.

Six sheriff’s deputies and two CHP officers arrived to help after officers noted that other bar customers were becoming hostile, Rasmussen said.

Both Roses had minor injuries and were taken to Sutter-Lakeside Hospital before being booked into jail.
