$30.4 million OK'd for SRJC garage

Trustees on Tuesday approved spending $30.4 million to build a five-story parking garage on the Santa Rosa Junior College campus, with construction expected to begin in September.

The 1,100-space parking structure is expected to be completed by mid-November 2006. The 366,000-square-foot structure with its 97-foot clock tower will be the tallest and largest building on the campus.

The builder will be Wright Contracting of Santa Rosa.

"We're very pleased a local firm and several local subcontractors will be involved with this," said Curt Groninga, vice president of administrative services.

The parking structure will be funded with money from Measure A, approved by the voters in 2002 for junior college capital improvement projects.
