What Robert Mondavi is to Napa, Jess Jackson is to Sonoma County--a larger than life character whose vision and drive is sometimes at odds with conventional wisdom. There's no denying, however, that KJ has become one of California's most recognized wine brands.
The Wine Center is the hub of the brand, a sparwling 120-acre complex just off Highway 101 north of Santa Rosa. As well as a tasting room, you'll find a culinary garden, viticultural exhibit and vineyards.
While their grapes come from all over the state --Santa Barbara to Mendocino-- many are crafted into appellation-designated and even vineyard-designated wines. Kendall-Jackson also has the Healdsburg Tasting Room just off the Plaza, at 337 Healdsburg Ave. (707-433-7102) for a more centrally-located visit; hours and fees are similar.
