Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery
Pioneers of Sonoma County winemaking, the Sebastianis arrived from Tuscany over 100 years ago, but it wasn't until the 1950s that August Sebastiani turned the winery into California's largest. Since then, the Sebastiani family has become as well-known for their feuding as for their wine (much like their neighbors the Mondavis), but the family's focus remains at the vineyards inside the Sonoma city limits.
The sprawling visitors center and vineyards located just a few blocks off the Sonoma Plaza adds a historic component to any Wine Country tour. The wines themselves can be hit-miss, but Sebastiani typically gets things right with classics like chardonnay and cabernet. Walk-in visitors are offered a tiered tasting menu once the whistle is whetted with a free taste. Informative wine sensory and trolley are offered throughout the day, so check the website for times and prices. And don't forget to bring your pooch: Fido is welcome here.
