Hockey honors for St. Vincent grad, Air Force's Adam McKenzie

Capping a standout run for the Air Force Academy hockey team, Adam McKenzie was named to the Capital One Academic All-America at-large second team.

The defenseman out of St. Vincent is the first Air Force hockey player to be twice named Academic All-American, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. McKenzie was a third-team Capital One Academic All-America selection in 2013.

McKenzie also was named the team’s top scholar athlete this season. He recently graduated in aeronautical engineering with a 3.89 GPA.

A four-year starter, McKenzie this season was named to the Atlantic Hockey Association all-conference second team after ranking sixth in conference scoring and finishing as the top scoring defenseman for Air Force.

As a junior, McKenzie was AHA Defenseman of the Year. He made the conference’s all-rookie team as a freshman.

Hockey was McKenzie’s first sport since first playing at age 5 in a Redwood Empire Ice Arena league.

At St. Vincent, he was a two-time All-Empire small schools selection in baseball. McKenzie, a catcher, helped lead St. Vincent to the North Coast Section title as a senior.
