Ukiah All-Stars host Babe Ruth Southwest Regional

Winner of this tournament, which begins Monday at Anton Stadium, advances to World Series|

The Babe Ruth League Southwest Regional tournament for all-star teams with players 13 to 15 years of age begins Monday in Ukiah.

Ukiah opens tonight at 7 p.m. at Anton Stadium against the Nevada state champion.

Ukiah’s stars won its first California Babe Ruth championship to earn the right to hold the tournament today through Aug. 9. The tournament winner will advance to the Babe Ruth World Series.

Ukiah won District 2 honors to reach the state tournament. There, Beau Barrington hit a 3-run home run to lead Ukiah to a 4-2 win over host Bel-Mateo. Ukiah then defeated East Sacramento 9-3, Mountain View 6-2 and Tri-Valley 2-1 to earn the crown.

Devon Kirby, Preston Mello and Karter Koch each pitched in every game. Barrington drove in 10 runs. Catcher Morgan Edwards threw out 11 runners trying to steal.
