Sonoma State women reach NCAA West Region volleyball final

Seawolves sweep into Saturday championship match vs. Dixie State.|

Sonoma State’s women’s volleyball team will play Dixie State of St. George, Utah, tonight in Nampa, Idaho, in the NCAA Division II West Region championship match.

The winner advances to the final eight in Louisville, Ky., Dec. 4 and 6 on the line.

The Seawolves (22-6), seeded seventh in the region, rallied Friday from a four-point deficit late in the first set to win 27-25, building the momentum and setting the stage for an impressive three-set sweep against No. 6 seed and 22nd-ranked Cal State San Bernardino, 27-25, 25-22, 25-17.

Dixie State, seeded eighth, advances with a four-set victory against fifth-seeded BYU-Hawaii,

Caylie Seitz led the Seawolves Friday with 17 kills en route to a .400 hitting percentage. Kelsey Hull added 11 kills, seven digs, two blocks and a service ace, and Madelyn Densberg had eight kills and nine digs. Defensively, Kaitlyn Connoly led all playes with 18 digs.

The will be the second West Region final for Sonoma State, which lost in 2011 to UCSB.
