Pac-12 women: Stanford beats USC, Cal wins at UCLA

13-0 run in first half sparked a Cardinal victory on Sunday.|

Lili Thompson scored 21 points and No. 11 Stanford eased past USC 71-60 on Sunday. Thompson made 12 of her 14 free throw attempts, both career highs.

Erica McCall had six-consecutive points to start a 13-0 run which gave Stanford a 23-13 lead with 10:52 left in the first half. The Cardinal led the rest of the way.

Stanford (15-5, 7-1 Pac-12) shot 50 percent from the field, including 41.7 percent (5 of 12) from 3-point range, and made 20 of 24 free throws.

McCall finished with 11 points and Amber Orrange added 10 for Stanford.

Jordan Adams had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Kaneisha Horn scored 11 and grabbed 11 boards to lead the Trojans (11-8, 3-5). Brianna Barrett added 15 points.

“We are a very good shooting team with a great shooting lineup out there,” Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer said. “I like the fact that we took care of the ball tonight and shot a good percentage. We’re a very good team, an explosive team, and we know that.

USC has lost three straight, its longest losing streak of the season

CAL 72, UCLA 57

At Los Angeles, Brittany Boyd had 24 points and eight assists to lead Cal past UCLA.

Boyd made 6 of 11 field goals, including 3 of 3 from 3-point range, and 9 of 10 free throws.

A 3-pointer by Boyd started a 15-0 run which gave Cal (14-5, 6-2) a 52-36 lead with 10:40 to play. Courtney Range hit two 3’s and scored eight points during that stretch and UCLA (8-11, 4-4) trailed by at least 13 the rest of the way.

UCLA jumped out to a 10-0 lead as Cal missed its first eight field goal attempts, but the Golden Bears made 24 of 43 (55.8 percent) shots from there and converted the Bruins’ 19 turnovers into 35 points.

Range finished with 11 points for Cal and Mercedes Jefflo added 10.

Nirra Fields led UCLA, which shot just 35 percent and made 2 of 10 from 3-point range, with 19 points on 8-of-24 shooting.

At Stanford late Saturday, Chasson Randle, Anthony Brown and Stefan Nastic each recorded at least 20 points and Stanford ran away from Arizona State. Randle and Brown contributed 21 points apiece and Nastic added 20 as the Cardinal (14-5, 5-2 Pac-12) won their eighth in 10 games. Stanford had three players score at least 20 points in the same game for the first time in at least 18 years according to school records.
