Diamondbacks draft Casa Grande High School grad Francis Christy

The catcher was taken by the Arizona team in the 7th round of the MLB draft on Tuesday.|

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected former Casa Grande baseball star Francis Christy with the first pick of the seventh round (196th overall) of the MLB draft on Tuesday.

Christy hit .326 with 12 doubles, 11 home runs and 52 RBIs at Palomar College (San Marcos) this season. He was named the Rawlings National Community College co-Player of the Year.

Christy was The Press Democrat’s All-Empire Large School Baseball Player of the Year in 2013, his senior season at with the Gauchos. The A’s selected Christy in the 37th round in 2013 but he opted not to sign.
