Max Brown threw three touchdown passes as Windsor defeated visiting Northgate 38-22 in a nonleague game Friday night.

Brown connected on a 16-yard pass to Anthony Spallino in the second quarter and later hooked up twice with Curtis Johnson for scoring plays. The first was from 23 yards out and the second was from the 26-yard line.

Johnson wound up with three TD catches. He was on the receiving end of a Jackson Baughman 61-yard pass.

Windsor put the game away by outscoring Northgate, 21-6, in the third quarter.

Brown completed 19-of-29 passes for 190 yards. Johnson had seven receptions good for 130 yards.

Baughman led the Jaguars' run game with 83 yards on six carries. David Escarcega had 78 on 12 touches.

On defense, Payton Easton and Mitch Bruning each had two interceptions.

Hayward 12, Montgomery 7

At Hayward, the visitors took the lead on a half-yard quarterback keeper with 1:40 left in the game.

The Vikings then marched into Hayward territory but quarterback Bruce Burroughs' pass was intercepted in the end zone.

Montgomery grabbed the lead in the second quarter on Malik Telcy's 7-yard run.

Despite the loss, coach Marcello Bautista saw plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the future.

'We played a lot better than in our first game of the season,' he said. The Vikings lost their opener to Napa, 54-21.

'I definitely saw progress,' he said. 'The offensive line played well.

'We just need to finish games. Hopefully, that will come with experience.'

Montgomery turned the ball over twice in the fourth quarter and was also victimized by penalties.

On defense, Nicholas Bautista and Charles Stone were impressive.

Berkeley 41, Sonoma Valley 7

At Berkeley, the home team raced to a 28-0 halftime lead.

The Dragons' lone score came on a 10-yard run by Sam Cordano in the fourth quarter.

'We gave up too many big plays,' Sonoma coach Bob Midgeley said. 'We had some blown assignments that really hurt us. We need to work on our football IQ and get smarter.'

Max Yankovich completed 12-of-19 passes for 95 yards. Freddy Padilla and Ethan Koler were his favorite receivers.

On defense, Noah Bartolome came up with two sacks and David Grubb had two tackles for losses.

Napa 49, Casa Grande 18

At Petaluma, the Gauchos' defense had no answer for the visitors' triple option offense.

'We couldn't stop them,' Casa coach Trent Herzog said.

The Gauchos were far from being at full strength. Six starters missed the game because of injury or illness.

The Gauchos scored the game's first points on a 31-yard field goal by Brandon Keefer.

Quarterback JJ Anderson rushed for one touchdown and passed for another.

He scored from 10 yards out and then tossed a 23-yard scoring pass to Dulio Froes.

Anderson completed 18 of 30 passes for 186 yards.

Napa shutdown the Casa running game. The home team gained only 99 yards. The longest run was 36 yards on a fake punt by Holton Johnson.

'Napa is a really physical team and they execute well,' Herzog said. 'We've been playing them the last six years and this team might be the best one.'
