Large schools football roundup: Analy routs Sonoma Valley to stay unbeaten

Tigers score four touchdowns in the first quarter on the way to a 54-7 victory.|

Analy, the top-ranked team in the Redwood Empire, looked like it Friday night as the Tigers opened SCL play with a decisive 54-7 win over host Sonoma Valley.

Analy scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and added two more in the second while racing to a 40-7 halftime lead.

Analy has now won its first five games of the season while Sonoma drops to 0-6.

Osiris Zamora led the Tigers’ offense with four rushing touchdowns. All four scores came from the 5-yard line or closer to the end zone.

Quarterback Jack Newman also had a productive night as he completed 18 of 25 passes with four of those going for scores. The junior’s longest touchdown was a 50-yard pass to Schuyler Van Weele to open the scoring.

Newman hooked up with Van Weele again later in the first quarter, this time from 5 yards out.

Also in the first quarter, Newman completed a 4-yard scoring pass to Ross Simmons. His final TD was a 6-yard pass to Austin Van Weele in the third quarter.

Newman finished the night with 260 passing yards.

Sonoma’s score came in the first quarter on a 63-yard run by Max Yankovich. At that point, the score was 12-7.

Analy’s defense was strong and the Dragons were able to gain only 92 yards with 63 of those coming on Yankovich’s run.

While Zamora racked up four touchdowns, he wasn’t the Tigers’ top ground gainer. Lucas Housman led in that department with five carries for 108 yards.
