Ukiah, Analy perfect as girls golf season wraps up

As the girls golf season nears its season-ending tournaments, both leagues are led by undefeated teams.

Ukiah, at 11-0, has led the North Bay League all season and has one match remaining, Tuesday/today with Casa Grande, who is near the bottom of the standings. (The Wildcats also have a match scheduled Thursday against Montgomery, but the Vikings have dropped out of competition this year.)

Second-place Maria Carrillo plays third-place Cardinal Newman in their final match of the season on Thursday.

Ukiah is led by Cassidy Schutz and Grace Eversole, who shoot in the low- to mid-40s.

Carrillo’s top Nicole Kearns and Katy Darrow put up similar scores, as can Newman’s Emily Pham and Natalie Justice.

Last month at Adobe Creek against Casa Grande, Eversole shot a five-over-par 40, a career low for her, and a week earlier, she shot a 43 and Schutz a 42 to beat the Gauchos at Foxtail South.

In the Sonoma County League, Analy has similarly run away with it, going 9-0, not including forfeits from Elsie Allen, which also didn’t field a team this year.

The Tigers played El Molino Tuesday/today, and finish with a bye before they host the SCL tournament Monday at Oakmont West.

Analy coach Joseph Heil said his team compares to the stronger programs of the NBL, like Ukiah.

“We played some of same courses and shot as well or better,” he said. “We’ve been measuring ourselves by them. We want to be the best in the Empire.”

Heil said he has the best player, and a couple others who he says should be All-League selections.

Senior Madison Beckett has shot under 40 for the last two weeks, he said, including a one-under par performance last week.

“She’s a kid who works harder than anybody,” he said. “Her game has really improved.”

Three other players at Analy are in the running for top individual performances, he said: Haley Windsor, Katie Morita, who he said is the most improved player in the league, and McKenna Lamb.

Petaluma’s Sarah Jane Catarozoli has been right up there with Beckett, said her coach, Chris Jones.

Catarozoli shot a 39 Thursday at par-35 Tayman Park last week to lead the Trojans over Healdsburg.

The Greyhounds and El Molino are battling for second-place in the SCL.

Both leagues will have their team tournaments on Monday.

League champions will automatically go on to the NCS tournament, called the Tournament of Champions, which will be held in the East Bay in early November. The top three individual golfers will also qualify.

The Northern California championships will be Nov. 9 and the CIF state championships on Nov. 17.
