Maddy Gonzalez scored three times and goalkeeper Claire Howard posted a shutout as Maria Carrillo’s girls soccer team defeated visiting Santa Rosa 8-0 on Tuesday.

The victory keeps the Pumas tied atop the North Bay League standings with Montgomery.

If both schools win their remaining two games and finish with identical 13-1 records, they will be declared co-champions.

However, if that happens, there will be a playoff game to determine which school gets the automatic invitation to the North Coast Section Tournament. The playoff would be held a week from Thursday at Santa Rosa High School.

Against Santa Rosa, the Pumas scored six goals in the second half.

“They were playing a trapping defense and we made the adjustment in the second half,” Carrillo coach Debra LaPrath said. “We were faster than they were.”
