STANFORD - Devin Hudson scored 12, Morgan McGwire and Lori Parkinson added 11, and the Santa Clara women upset No. 13 Stanford 61-58 on Monday night.

McGwire’s layup with 59 seconds left capped a 6-0 run and gave the Broncos (2-2) a 57-50 lead.

Karlie Samuelson answered with a quick 3, and the Cardinal (3-1) pulled within 60-58 on Lili Thompson’s 3 with 13 seconds left.

Savanna Hanson made 1 of 2 free throws for Santa Clara and Thompson missed a potentially game-tying 3 in the final seconds. Thompson finished with 21 points and Erica McCall had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Santa Clara had a 41-33 lead at halftime, but the Cardinal seemed to have the momentum on Briana Robinson’s 4-point play that tied it at 45 with 6:02 left. Hudson answered with a quick basket for SCU and Stanford never pulled in front.

It was the Broncos’ first victory in eight tries against Stanford - their last win was an 81-65 victory on Dec. 4, 1998. Their last win at Stanford was on Nov. 21, 1984.

The Cardinal hold a 29-5 edge in the all-time series.
