High school baseball roundup: Analy beats El Molino 4-2

Analy's baseball team clinched a tie for the Sonoma County League title Tuesday as the Tigers defeated El Molino 4-2, in Sebastopol.

Analy can take sole possession of the crown on Friday with a victory at Piner in the regular season finale. The Tigers are 10-1, one game ahead of runner-up Petaluma.

“Our job is definitely not done,” coach Jeff Ogston said. “We want to win this thing outright and take care of it in the regular season, not in a playoff.”

The Tigers started quickly and put four runs on the board in the first, after El Molino scored in the top of the inning.

Analy began the game with four consecutive hits. Devon Ogston's single was followed by David Codoni's double and singles by Nolan Alvarez and Jacob Beeler. Tayler Cullen had a run-scoring double later in the inning.

After that, opposing pitcher Austin Sani settled down and allowed only two hits and no runs.

Sani also knocked in the Lions' two runs. The senior went 3 for 3.

“We got a little too happy after that first inning,” coach Ogston said. “We tried to do too much and didn't have very good approaches at the plate.”

Gabe Werthimer pitched the first six innings for the Tigers and Ryan Calderon came on in the seventh.

Analy's overall record is 18-5. El Molino is now 7-13 and 4-7.

PINER 3, SONOMA VALLEY 2

At Piner, the Prospectors played one of their best games of the season.

“It's our biggest victory of the year,” coach Nick Green said. “The players put in the time to practice the little things and it paid off with a win over a quality team like Sonoma Valley.”

The Dragons came to town with a 7-3 league record while Piner was 4-6.

The Prospectors rallied for two runs in the seventh and Dylan Currin was the hero. His double to the gap in right center field scored Jason Miller with the winning run. It was close at the plate with Miller's head-first slide just beating the tag.

Jacob Shipman hurled one-hit ball over the final three innings and got the win. Jake Wiggins pitched the first four.

Shane O'Malley was the tough-luck loser. He allowed only four hits. Ethan Vitale led the Dragons' offense with two hits.

PETALUMA 14, ELSIE ALLEN 5

At Elsie Allen, the Trojans banged out 21 hits with Porter Slate and Kempton Brandis leading the attack.

Slate was 5 for 5 with a double while Brandis was 4 for 5 with a double, triple and 3 RBIs. Nick Andrakin and Devin Gottschall had three hits each.

After being held hitless through four innings by winning pitcher Blake Buhrer, Elsie Allen erupted for five runs in the fifth. Gage Smith broke up the no-hitter and Luis Flores also had a key hit.

KELSEYVILLE 10, FORT BRAGG 0

At Kelseyville, the Knights remained unbeaten in NCL II and stretched their winning streak to 12.

Logan Barrick tossed a three-hitter and improved to 10-1 on the season.

Noah Lyndall was the hitting star. He was 3 for 3 with a triple, home run and three RBIs.

Kelseyville is 11-0 in league and 15-2 overall.
