Cloverdale's Teanne Edens will do two-sport all-star doubleheader

Teanne Edens figures to be tired by Saturday evening.

That's because the Cloverdale resident's endurance will be tested Saturday when she competes in a unique doubleheader.

In the afternoon, she'll put on her softball gear to participate in the inaugural all-star game for recent Redwood Empire high school graduates at Santa Rosa Junior College. Following that seven-inning game, she'll hustle across town to Rincon Valley Christian School, where she'll change into a basketball uniform in preparation for another all-star game.

She hopes to arrive in time to practice with her team before the girls' game begins at 5:45 p.m.

“I'm feeling good and looking forward to both games,” Edens said. “It's going to be a long day but one I'm sure is going to be fun.”

The softball contest begins at?1 p.m. and while most of the players are from the Sonoma County League or North Bay League, the Cloverdale star received a special invitation to play for the SCL.

Edens has been one of the best pitchers in the county during her four-year high school career and the recent season was her best. She struck out 237 batters in 134 innings and had an ERA of 0.63.

Edens was also nifty with the bat, hitting .506. Cloverdale finished the season 20-4 and lost the North Coast Section Division 5 championship in extra innings to St. Joseph Notre Dame.

Petaluma's Kurt Jastrow and Sonoma Valley's Dean Merrill, the SCL coaches, also have another top pitcher on their staff in Analy's Saja Spearman-Weaver. She was instrumental in leading the Tigers to a share of the league championship with Petaluma.

The NBL, coached by Montgomery's Mike Malvino and Santa Rosa's Jeff Pratt, also has two pitchers on their roster. Cardinal Newman's Lexie Raasch and Ukiah's Delaney Kindopp both enjoyed success this season.

The inaugural all-star softball game is being sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.
