Triathletes converge on Sonoma County for VineMan

The annual competition sees athletes swim the waters of the Russian River, cycle along the county’s rural roads and run a marathon.|

Athletes fanned out across Sonoma County Saturday for the VineMan triathlon, the oldest such event in the continental U.S.

Kyle Buckingham, from South Africa, won the men’s race in a time of 08:27:58. Sarah Piampiano of San Rafael won the women’s race in 09:19:05.

The annual competition sees athletes swim the waters of the Russian River in Guerneville, cycle along the county’s rural roads and run a marathon that begins and ends at Windsor High School.
