The historic Harley Davidson vs. Indian Motorcycles battle invades Sonoma County this weekend with the Ramspur Winery Santa Rosa Mile AMA Pro Flat Track Motorcycle Race. Motorcycle fans from all over the country will travel to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds to get a glimpse at riders from the pro circuit.

The Santa Rosa Mile is the finale of the AMA Race season and will also be the deciding race in the AMA championship chase.

Four-time AMA Pro Flat Track Champion and 2016 X Games gold medalist Jared Mees will be competing in the Santa Rosa Mile. Mees is currently in second place in the AMA standings, only four points behind Michigan native, No. 42 Chris Smith.

“The event is going to be awesome but, everyone’s waiting on Jared and Chris. They’re total professionals waiting to just tear the track up.” said Eli Ledwith, an event manager for the Santa Rosa Mile.

The two racers will be competing for the No. 1 racing plate currently held by Mees.

“It’s like winning the lottery for these guys. The No.1 means everything.” said Clark Plummer, a member of Chris Smith’s team.

There will be practice sessions and smaller races throughout the weekend with the culmination of the event taking place Sunday in the Santa Rosa Mile.

Ledwith said they’re expecting the event to be sold out, with over 5000 people in attendance.

“The Track is really looking great. Santa Rosa is a great location,” said Ledwith. “There is a lot of excitement in the air, even for the practice sessions and smaller races.”

The Santa Rosa Mile will race on the fairgrounds course where the horse races usually take place. Racers will be turning corners at speeds over 100 mph with mud spewing everywhere throughout the track.

“It’s really unique, a total eye opener these guys are crazy whether you’ve been to a 100 races or this is your first time you can feel the intensity.” said Plummer.

Tickets are being sold now at santarosamile.com now for $25-$75. Opening ceremonies will start at 6:30 p.m. today.
