The Fort Bragg football team has had another stellar season and will be playing again in NCS postseason play.

The Timberwolves are 8-1 overall and 7-0 in league play and just clinched their third consecutive NCL I title Friday with a 31-16 victory against Middletown, their closest pursuer in the league standings.

Timberwolves coach Roy Perkins attributed a large part of the team’s success to the “Beat the Heat” football camp he has been running at his school in June the past three years. He has invited two other schools to come stay in the Fort Bragg gym, practice non-contact field drills, and share information and football techniques over a three-day stretch. The Amador Buffaloes from Sutter Creek, a successful team from the Mother Lode League in California Gold Country, have come to the camp all three years and Perkins said practicing and training with them has upped his team’s performance.

“The effect of the Buffaloes has been instrumental in our success,” Perkins said. “It builds a tremendous amount of confidence in our players.”

Perkins said he plans on continuing the “Beat the Heat” camp for years to come and wants to expand it to include more teams, possibly even a couple from Santa Rosa.
