St. Patrick-St. Vincent broke open a tie game by scoring two unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter to defeat Fort Bragg 49-35 in the NCS Division 5 championship football game Saturday night in Martinez.

Fort Bragg scored 21 points in the second quarter and went into the halftime break leading 28-27.

In the third period, the Timberwolves extended the lead to 35-27, but the team from Vallejo responded by running the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown and then successfully going for two on the extra point.

The game was delayed more than 30 minutes in the second quarter when Fort Bragg’s starting right tackle Alex Ybbara dislocated his ankle.

“There wasn’t an ambulance at the field and it took 27 minutes to get one to come and transport him to the hospital,” coach Roy Perkins said.

Ybbara was also his team’s kicker.

Fort Bragg racked up 530 yards of offense.

Leading the way was Trystin Strickland. He gained 208 yards on 30 carries and scored a rushing touchdown. He was also on the receiving end of two scoring passes.

Quarterback Lucas Triplett threw for four touchdowns while completing 14 of 35 passes for 216 yards.

“The game was a real donnybrook, especially in the first half,” Perkins said.

“I think in the end, we ran out of bullets. They simply had more team speed than we had and that showed in the end.

“I’ll always remember this team. This group achieved more than anybody could’ve dreamed possible.”

The Timberwolves end the season 11-2. The Bruins, members of the Tri-County-Rock League, are now 11-3.
