The Windsor boys pushed their nonleague record to 6-2 Tuesday night with a 63-53 home victory against Elsie Allen.

After a hot start to the first quarter, the Jaguars cooled as the quarter came to a close, and the Lobos (2-7) heated up.

After Windsor jumped to a 16-4 lead, Elsie trimmed the lead to 16-6 as the quarter ended, and then pounced at the start of the second with back-to-back 3s to close the deficit to just four points.

“We had trouble defending the ball in the second quarter, and it led to easy baskets,” Jaguars coach Travis Taylor said.

The Lobos managed to take a?29-23 lead into the locker room, but the halftime talk helped Windsor come out strong in the third. The Jaguars stretched their lead to 14 points after three quarters, putting the game all but out of reach.

“We had a better effort in the third quarter and controlled most of the fourth,” Taylor said.

The Jaguars’ three big men helped make the difference, especially the Smith brothers - Riley and Justin.

The 6-foot-7 Riley led Windsor with 20 points, and Justin, who is 6-foot-6, notched 14 points.

Windsor’s other big man, Travis Carlozzi at 6-foot-5, finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Taylor pointed out that he’s having his players work on their defensive mindset and continue work on becoming a team that attacks the rim as opposed to being the perimeter team it was last season.

The Jaguars host Mount Diablo Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and will then host the Windsor Holiday Shootout next week from Dec. 28-30 before North Bay League play starts in January.

SANTA ROSA 56, PETALUMA 38

The Panthers (4-3) jumped out to an eight-point lead after one quarter and padded the lead to 14 points after three quarters to pull away from the Trojans (4-5).

Kalei Aukai led Santa Rosa and all scorers with 20 points and Alex Diggs finished with nine for the Panthers. Joey Potts scored 14 for Petaluma and teammate Colin Stremlau chipped in eight points.

The Trojans host Casa Grande today at 7:30 p.m. while Santa Rosa hosts Vintage of Napa on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

PINER 55, MARIA CARRILLO 44

The Prospectors (7-3) pulled away in the fourth quarter to finish their final game before the Christmas holiday with a definitive victory.

Piner went into the fourth quarter tied with Maria Carrillo (3-4) at?42-42, but the Pumas only managed two points in the final stanza.

Prospectors coach Mike Erickson said his team made a few plays, got some separation and did enough to hold on.

“We were pretty solid on defense,” he said. “We scored early and got a little separation and got some stops. We extended it a little bit and held on in the end.”

Piner hosts the Sonoma County Classic Dec. 28-30. Maria Carrillo hosts Sonoma Valley on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
