Andrew Vaughn has been invited to train with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team as the squad prepares for a series of international games later this month.

Vaughn, a 2016 Maria Carrillo grad who was The Press Democrat’s All-Empire Large School Player of the Year as a senior, had a breakout freshman campaign at Cal, earning 2017 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors.

Vaughn tied for the lead in the Pac-12 in home runs (12) and was in the top 10 in slugging percentage (.555), RBI (50), hits, total bases and batting average (.349)

He started every game of the season at first base, where he had a .996 fielding percentage. He also made 10 appearances on the mound as a relief pitcher.

The final national team roster will be announced prior to the five-game series against Chinese Taipei starting June 27. The team then hosts Cuba in a five game series July 2-7.

Vaughn was one of seven players invited to the training camp in Cary, N.C.

Both the Chinese Taipei and Cuba series will be livestreamed on usabaseball.com.
