Two Redwood Empire baseball players were taken in the late rounds of the Major League Baseball draft Wednesday.

Clayton Andrews, the 2015 Press Democrat All-Empire Player of the Year, was taken in the 40th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 1,210 th pick. Andrews hit .410 in 40 games as a sophomore for Cabrillo College this season and earned All-American honors as a left-handed relief pitcher.

He is the second Maria Carrillo grad to be taken in this draft. Jake Scheiner, a junior who played at Santa Rosa Junior College and the University of Houston, was picked in the fourth round by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Kevin George, who played for Casa Grande High School, was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the 33rd round with the 987th pick. George was a first-team All-Empire selection as a junior at Casa Grande in 2012. He spent his first two seasons at Santa Clara University before transferring to Menlo College. The left-hander pitched 50 innings in 23 appearances for the Oaks as a junior this season, accumulating a 3.42 ERA.
