Friday night football: Kelseyville KOs Clear Lake

Kelseyville High will take home the Bass Bowl fish trophy after recovering from a 14-0 hole to score 42 unanswered points to defeat Clear Lake 42-14 in Kelseyville on Friday night.

'It was a wild ride the first half and then the second half our defense shut them down,' Knights coach Erick Larsen said.

Larsen said that Clear Lake opened up the game with a hook and lateral play to score a touchdown and followed that with another long score to make it 14-0 early. Kelseyville (2-2 NCL I, 2-4) then drove back to make it 21-14 at the end of the half and pulled away in the second.

Adrian Villalobos had two rushing touchdowns, one for 59 yards and one for nine yards. He also returned an interception 47 yards for a score.

Jordi Lopez also had two touchdown runs for 5 yards and 1 yard. Robert Chavez also had a 9-yard touchdown run for the Knights.

Kelseyville plays at Lower Lake next Friday at 7:30 p.m. Clear Lake plays at Middletown next Friday at 7:30 p.m.

FORT BRAGG 12, ST. HELENA 6

At Fort Bragg, the Timberwolves and Knights fought to a scoreless first half before fighting down to the wire on what was reported as a cold night on the coast.

Fort Bragg (3-2 NBL I, 3-4) used 53-yard and 23-yard touchdown passes from Julian Clavelle to Jason McCoard to ride the game to victory, but owed the game to yet another standout performance by its defense.

Timberwolves coach Roy Perkins said that St. Helena ran four plays from inside the Fort Bragg 8 but failed to score, turning the ball over on downs when the Timberwolves got the ball back and ran out the clock.

'It was a back and forth struggle with lots of excitement in the end,' Perkins said. 'It was a real hard-fought football game.

'We just made one more play than they did and we're just fortunate our defense played well.'

The Timberwolves host St. Vincent next week 7 p.m. According to MaxPreps, St. Helena plays at Winters at 7:30 p.m.

CARDINAL NEWMAN 56, MARIA CARRILLO 14

The Cardinals cruised to a dominating victory against the Pumas in a league matchup Friday night to keep their undefeated North Bay League record intact.

Beau Barrington threw for 156 yards and three touchdown passes for the Cardinals (3-0 NBL, 5-1) and Tanner Mendoza rushed for 118 yards and scored three rushing touchdowns.

Kyle Carinalli scored two touchdowns, on a 60-yard pass from Barrington and another on a 25-yard rush.

Newman hosts Montgomery next week at 7 p.m. Coach Paul Cronin said the Vikings offense is talented with a great quarterback and good receivers.

Khameron Perkins scored two rushing touchdowns for Carrillo (1-2 NBL, 2-4 overall), who hosts Casa Grande at Santa Rosa Junior College next Friday at 7:30 p.m.

RANCHO COTATE 55, WINDSOR 17

At Rohnert Park, the Cougars pulled off another dominating performance to keep its perfect record on the season overall and in league play intact.

Windsor (1-2 NBL, 2-4) came out of the gates strong, tying the Cougars after their first touchdown on a 99-yard kickoff return from Patrick Tappin and followed that up with a 4-yard touchdown run from Max Gonzalez before Rancho ultimately pulled away for a 27-14 lead at the end of one quarter.

Jake Simmons threw for 308 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed another score in from 17 yards out. Logan Reese had 6 catches for 201 yards and two touchdowns and Jaelen Ward recorded five catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns.

On defense Elias Rantissi led the Cougars (3-0 NBL, 6-0 overall) with 13 tackles and 3 sacks. James Parker also intercepted one pass and returned it 66 yards for a touchdown.

'We're pushing through what teams are throwing at us,' Cougars coach Gehrig Hotaling said. 'The kids responded well tonight and it was a fun game.'

Hotaling still hasn't loss in his first season as a head coach.

'It's nice but I'd look at it what's in the past is in the past and I enjoy it for 24 hours,' he said. 'Take this one game at a time, that's the only way to do this properly.'

Otis Cain added a 40-yard field goal for the Jaguars, who play host next Friday to Santa Rosa, which pulled off a stunning 40-7 victory at Montgomery on Friday.

The Cougars host Ukiah next Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
