Stanford men fall to Florida; women breeze past Kent State

Egor Koulechov had 26 points, including five 3-pointers, and No. 7 Florida routed Stanford 108-87 on Thursday night in the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Oregon.

Jalen Hudson added 17 points, including a career-high four 3s, for the Gators (4-0). Next up, Florida plays No. 17 Gonzaga or Ohio State.

Reid Travis had 23 points for Stanford (3-3), which lost its second in a row to an opponent ranked in the top 10. The Cardinal trailed by as many as 38.

Koulechov, a graduate transfer, made all five of his 3-point attempts and Florida hit 15 from long range overall.

The tournament involves 16 teams playing in two brackets on Thanksgiving, Friday and Sunday, with a break on Saturday. The field also includes No. 4 Michigan State and defending NCAA tournament champion North Carolina.

Dubbed the PK80, the tournament celebrates Nike co-founder Phil Knight's 80th birthday.

Florida and Stanford were in the Motion Bracket, playing Thursday at the Memorial Coliseum. Teams in the Victory Bracket played Thanksgiving Day at the adjacent Moda Center.

STANFORD WOMEN 79, KENT STATE 54

DiJonai Carrington scored a career-high 24 points and hauled down 10 rebounds to lead No. 14 Stanford over Kent State 79-54 on Thursday in the Play4Kay Showcase in Las Vegas.

Alanna Smith added 15 points and eight rebounds, Nadia Fingall 11 points and Marta Sniezek 10 points with eight rebounds and seven assists for the Cardinal (3-2).

Jordan Korinek scored 21 points and Ali Poole added 14 points for the Golden Flashes (3-2).

Kent State had its only lead after Korinek made consecutive 3-pointers for a 25-20 edge early in the second quarter. Stanford responded with a 24-0 run with 10 points from Carrington and nine points from Smith.

The lead remained in double figures, though Kent State got within 10, 55-45, late in the third quarter with a 3-pointer and bucket by Poole. Stanford quickly added plenty of cushion, outscoring Kent State 22-8 in the fourth quarter.
