Sonoma County youth football teams headed to national championship tournament

Three youth teams from the Redwood Empire will be competing next weekend in Ohio in the inaugural Pro Football Hall of Fame National Youth Championship.|

Three youth football teams from the Redwood Empire - the Redwood PAL Golden Bears of Santa Rosa, the Ukiah Lions and the Petaluma Panthers - will be competing next weekend in Canton, Ohio, in the inaugural Pro Football Hall of Fame National Youth Championship.

These teams are seeking community support to help finance their trips.

The Petaluma team has a GoFundMe page established (search for petalumapanthers), the Ukiah team has a donation link on its Facebook page (search for Ukiah Lions) and the Redwood PAL team is asking for prospective donors to email the league at palgoldenbears@gmail.com.

The PAL Golden Bears compete in the mighty mites division, Petaluma in the junior pee wee division and Ukiah in the pee wee division.

The tournament in Ohio begins Thursday and runs through championship games on Dec. 17.

High school athletic directors and coaches in the region are asked to communicate to The Press Democrat sports department the letters of intent signed by students at your school at or before the fall signing date.
