Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford was named a starter for the National League for the 2018 All-Star Game in Washington on July 17. He was joined on the NL roster by catcher Buster Posey.

The A’s were rewarded with the selection of bullpen closer Blake Treinen to the American League team, but Treinen - and many of the A’s - were disappointed that Sunday’s announcement did not also include Jed Lowrie, who leads all second baseman with 16 home runs and 62 RBIs. He’s second at the position in doubles with 35 and third in batting average at .290.

“We’re waiting for Jed to get completely through,” Treinen said. “He’s had one heck of a year. I’d let him take my place any day.”

There’s still a chance Lowrie could make his first All-Star Game as an injury replacement with New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres dealing with a hip strain.

As for the complete roster, Mike Trout, Aaron Judge and Mookie Betts will form a dream outfield for the AL, while Bryce Harper and Max Scherzer will make up a not-so-gracious hosts.

Baseball unveiled the rosters for its midsummer showcase on Sunday night, featuring an imposing lineup for the American League and Harper in his usual spot at his home ballpark in Washington.

Trout is working on perhaps the best season of his stellar career with the Los Angeles Angels. Judge has 25 homers and 58 RBIs for the New York Yankees, and Betts is batting .342 with 22 homers for the major league-leading Boston Red Sox.

But that’s just the beginning for the AL. Houston Astros second baseman and reigning AL MVP Jose Altuve led the fan balloting with 4.8 million votes. Baltimore Orioles shortstop Manny Machado will make the short trip to D.C.

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu, Cleveland Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez, Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez and Tampa Bay Rays catcher Wilson Ramos round out the AL’s starting lineup.

Harper was voted a starter for the fourth consecutive year, although he is betting just .218 but has 21 homers and 51 RBIs. ick Markakis and Matt Kemp will join Harper in the NL outfield. Markakis has been a key performer for the surprising Atlanta Braves and made it for the first time in 13 major league seasons. Kemp’s return to the Los Angeles Dodgers has been a success.

The Chicago Cubs will have two starters after catcher Willson Contreras and second baseman Javier Baez each won a close race. Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman and Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado round out the NL starting lineup.
