Cardinal Newman remained the only unbeaten high school football team in the North Bay League-Oak Division after handing the Wildcats their first league loss of the season, 45-14, at Ukiah on Friday.

Going into the game, the Cardinals, Ukiah and Windsor were all 1-0 after last week's league openers. With Windsor's loss to Rancho Cotate, the Cardinals (6-1) stand atop the division two weeks in.

Cardinals quarterback Jackson Pavitt led his team with six touchdowns, three passing and three on the ground. He connected on 12 of 19 passes for 179 yards and gained another 36 on eight carries.

The Cardinals took an early lead and poured it on Ukiah (5-2) in the second quarter.

After a Newman defensive stop on Ukiah's first drive of the game, the Cardinals' Jake Woods deflected the ensuing punt, giving Newman excellent field position.

Pavitt ran it in from the 3-yard line to put the Cardinals up 7-0 four minutes into the game.

Ukiah tied it with a 20-yard scoring pass from Nate Johnson to Jay Jay Escamilla, but Newman dominated from there.

Cardinal Newman tallied the next six scores, and Pavitt was involved in every one. The 6-foot-2 junior quarterback scored on two runs and connected twice in the air with Chauncey Leberthon and once with Jake Woods.

Rancho Cotate 44, Windsor 0

Rancho Cotate returned to winning form — with authority — after its NBL-Oak loss last week, handing the visiting Jaguars (3-4, 1-1) their first league loss of the year.

The Cougars (6-1, 1-1) scored at will against Windsor early, building a 34-0 lead by halftime.

Rasheed Rankin scored on two short rushes and quarterback Jared Stocker threw for two touchdowns — one to Brandon Proschold and another to Ryan Hupp in the first two quarters.

Andrew Alfaro hit all of his extra points and made two field goals to add to the total.

Analy 41, Maria Carrillo 35

The Tigers won their first home game of the year, downing the Pumas with a strong first half and holding on late.

The game started with a scoring frenzy as Analy took a 14-0 lead in the first two minutes. Analy quarterback Nic Visser hit Tyler Nebozuk for a catch-and-run touchdown to open the scoring.

On a Carrillo punt on its first possession, Analy's Colin Walker deflected the ball, allowing the Tigers to take over on Carrillo's 25 and eventually score.

Carrillo got on the board before Analy scored again, putting the Tigers up 20-7 after only 12 minutes of football.

Analy led 34-21 at halftime.

'We opened up a 20-point lead and took our foot off the pedal, and they came back and made it close,' Analy coach James Foster said.

Visser threw for five touchdowns and 282 yards while cornerback Vine Willis had two interceptions — both in the red zone — to lead the Tigers.

El Molino 42, Piner 20

In an NBL-Redwood Division contest, the Lions won their second game of the year but their first in league with a decisive victory over the visiting Prospectors.

El Molino improved to 2-5 and 1-1. Piner is now 3-4 and 0-1.

El Molino led 28-14 at the half and kept the pressure on, holding Piner to 6 points in the fourth quarter.

Receiver Jackson Dunkle had two touchdown catches in the first half, both from Wyatt Stringfellow.

'Jackson had an amazing night,' El Molino coach Randy Parameter said. 'Those were both tough balls and he went up and battled for them. Wyatt threw the ball and ran the ball well tonight.'
