Report: Warriors agree to one-year deal with forward Omri Casspi

The Warriors have finally dipped into the free agency market and captured a player that wasn't previously theirs.

On Tuesday afternoon, veteran forward Omri Casspi agreed to a one-year deal with the Warriors, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Casspi signed for the veteran minimum, which is $2.1 million, as first reported by the Washington Post's Tim Bontemps.

Casspi is a 6-foot-9, nine-year veteran small forward, known best for his sharpshooting. Casspi has made 468 threes in his 499 career games, serving primarily as scoring punch off the bench.

And that is the role he is expected to take for the Warriors, filling into the slot that's now expected to be vacated by Ian Clark, who is a free agent and likely expected to get a bigger payday than the Warriors wanted to give.

This could also spell an end to the chase of the enigmatic but popular Nick Young, a sharpshooting forward who, like Casspi, would slide into that role of shooter off the bench.

Including all their other agreements, their players already under contract and the drafting of Jordan Bell, that puts the Warriors roster at 12 players. Zaza Pachulia, JaVale McGee and James Michael McAdoo remain their unsigned free agents.

As of now, only the unproven Bell, Damian Jones and Kevon Looney, joined by 38-year-old David West, make up the centers on the roster. So expect the Warriors' offseason focus to now shift toward that big man spot.

But Casspi is a nice signing at a one-year cost-efficient price. He's played for six teams over his nine years, bouncing around from the Kings to the Pelicans to the Timberwolves last year after he was in the DeMarcus Cousins trade. He has made 36.7 percent of his career 3s, including a career best year in 2015-16 when he made 40.9 percent.
