Report: Warriors to re-sign JaVale McGee

JaVale McGee's journey to another season with the Warriors was not necessarily quick, but it is now reportedly over.

The veteran 7-footer will sign to rejoin Golden State on a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Chris Haynes, as the Warriors finalize their 15th roster spot after much speculation.

McGee, 29, averaged 6.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 9.6 minutes over 77 games, including 10 starts in place of Zaza Pachulia, during his first year with the Warriors — in what became an NBA championship season.

The eccentric and entertaining center seemingly softened some edges in that season after gaining a reputation as a goofball while playing for the Wizards, Nuggets, 76ers and Mavericks.

'This has been somewhat of a redemption season,' McGee told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated in May. 'This has been a great opportunity and platform to show what I have and to help this team.'

Many around the NBA wondered if McGee would be back, considering Golden State's salary cap situation and the money McGee could possibly command on the free agent market following his turnaround season. Reports surfaced earlier this month about McGee meeting with two otherCalifornia teams.

But JaVale shall return.

That should make coach Steve Kerr happy, since he recently said he would 'love' to have the center back. McGee himself might have wanted this all along, seeing as he bonded with Warriors stars Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant among others — including hosting a celebrity softball game in which some teammates played.
