Caitlyn Jenner is reportedly pretty serious about running for California governor

Caitlyn Jenner, the former Olympic athlete and reality television star, is reportedly "actively exploring" a bid for governor of California.

Axios reported Tuesday that Jenner's interest is very real — so much so that she has been having serious conversations with multiple political consultants. According to Axios, Jenner, a longtime Republican, is being assisted by longtime GOP fundraiser Caroline Wren, who worked to re-elect President Trump in 2020.

Jenner, who came out as transgender in 2015 and lives in Malibu, voted for Trump in 2016, but later expressed disappointment with his handling of LGBT issues.

In 2017, Jenner did an interview on Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight" and discussed Trump as well the issue of transgender women competing against biological women in sports, an issue that has become increasingly salient among Republican voters.

Incumbent Gov. Gavin Newsom is all but certain to face a recall election in the fall. So far two Republicans — former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and businessman John Cox — have announced that they will run at the bottom of the ballot.

On the recall ballot, voters will be faced with two questions: 1. Should Newsom be recalled? and 2. Which candidate should replace him?

In the 2003 recall election for Gov. Gray Davis, there were over 100 candidates at the bottom of the ballot, with Arnold Schwarzenegger emerging victorious.
