CHP: DUI driver arrested in Cotati, kicked out patrol car camera

CHP officers arrested an Oceanside man on Highway 101 on Sunday night after another driver called 911 to report the suspected impaired driver weaving, nearly crashing and preventing traffic from passing.

Preliminary tests showed the driver Drew Easton, 32, was estimated to be more than three times over the blood-alcohol legal limit of 0.08 percent for driving, the CHP said Monday.

Easton was stopped after 8 p.m. when a driver called 911 to report an erratic Ford Transit van driver on Highway 101 near Petaluma Boulevard North.

Officers stopped the van in Cotati on West Sierra Boulevard. Easton failed sobriety tests and was arrested. Once inside the patrol car, the CHP said Easton struggled and yelled at officers, and kicked and broke a surveillance camera while spitting repeatedly. Easton’s license has been expired since 2014.

He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of drunken driving, felony vandalism, felony criminal threats and driving with a suspended license.
