Cyclist crashes down embankment at Sonoma Coast

The injured cyclist fell 50 feet and landed in a creek near Salt Point State Park Thursday.|

A cyclist rode off the road, fell down an embankment and landed in a creek Thursday on a steep and winding route in the coastal hills, emergency officials said.

The crash was reported at 12:55 p.m. on Hauser Bridge Road near the Ratna Ling Retreat Center in a remote area near Salt Point State Park.

The cyclist fell between 20 and 50 feet, dispatchers said.

Timber Cove firefighters responded to the crash. Emergency officials called for a medical helicopter to transport the cyclist to a hospital.
